Law Change from Smokefree Advocacy

smokefreeparksplaygrounds

Tobacco has an undeniable impact on people's health and quality of life, so Partnership Health Canterbury (PHC) advocates actively on a number of smokefree issues. Working with Smokefree Canterbury and other local providers, information was provided to the Maori Party consultation and submission process on the impact of tobacco. As a result of these submissions, tobacco retail displays are banned, seeing the demise of a marketing tool that provided an unneeded temptation for children, and those trying to give up.PHC has also funded an evaluation by Smokefree Canterbury and the Christchurch City Council of the smokefree parks and playgrounds policy introduced in 2009. According to this evaluation, the programme has been positively accepted.
