Maori Health

As part of Te Kahui o Papaki Ka Tai (TKOP), the Maori Health Advisory Group, we help provide a forum for a multi-disciplinary approach to Maori health issues. Expanding the group's membership to be Canterbury wide, and focusing its plan around stakeholder engagement on delivery of services, is producing more solutions to Maori health issues. This group is providing leadership around what works for Maori, and linkages into the Transitional Leadership Board. Other successes have included active work with Maori health providers, the successes of the Maori Diabetes Project (see page 10), Tane Ora health promotion and strong immunisation and Before School Check rates. To help meet health needs of Maori and Pacific peoples, we have also worked with a range of partners to fund research, such as the University of Otago cultural training and summer studentships and scholarships . We acknowledge the fine work of Whanau link service, funded through Pegasus Health, in supporting Maori who face complex health and social issues.
