Why Enrol in a PHO? There are many reasons to enrol in a PHO. Enrolment costs nothing and benefits you, your family/whanau/fono and your community. All PHO members, regardless of age, pay less to visit a doctor and pay only $3 each for prescription medicines. The cheaper services help everyone: patients, parents and caregivers. Partnership Health Canterbury Te Kei o Te Waka also offers programmes like Active Families, CarePlus, Frail Elderly, End-of-Life Services, Services to Improve Access, Chronic Care, Diabetes Get Well Checks, Chronic Disease Management, Youth Sexual Health, Quit Smoking and Child Health Services; all designed to benefit your entire family/whanau/fono. Enrolled patients who do not have English as a first language also have access to free interpretation services through their general practice team. Enrolment in a PHO encourages you to develop a strong relationship with your general practice team. People who have an ongoing relationship with their family doctor team tend to get diagnosed more quickly and spend less time in hospital. The more people who enrol in the PHO, the more the community will benefit. By understanding who is in the community that we serve, we can make sure our efforts are spent wisely so that everyone is getting the best care possible. Ask your general practice team about enrolling with their PHO.
