Partnership Health Canterbury Structure and Governance

A publicly accountable charitable trust, Partnership Health Canterbury is governed by a Board of Trustees.

The 16-member Board has an independent chairperson. Each member represents one of six electoral groupings, which are a cross-section of both community representatives and health professionals:

• Mana Whenua Ki Waitaha (2)
• Pacific People (1)
• Territorial Local Authorities (2)
• Consumer/Community Organisations (3)
• General Practice Organisations (IPAs/PCOs) (4)
• Non-contracted Provider
• Independent Chair

Each grouping democratically selects or elects its representatives, who are made aware of the responsibility to represent their whole electoral grouping. All of our electoral groupings have their own reference groups, which are consulted regularly. They provide valuable feedback to Partnership Health Canterbury and it is important we acknowledge their contribution.

New Zealand’s founding document, the Treaty of Waitangi, provides a commitment to partnership between Maori and the Crown. Partnership Health Canterbury recognises this and the inclusion of Maori on our trust board is one way in which we are showing our commitment to a joint way forward with full Maori participation to meet the needs of this unique population.
